Historic Cooperstown    

Cooperstown, New York is situated at the foot of Otsego Lake, the "Glimmerglass" of James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales. Cooperstown is the headquarters of the New York State Historical Association, which operates two museums and a degree granting graduate program. The Farmers Museum is an authentic village crossroads depicting farm and village life in the early history of this region. The Fenimore House is home to an extensive collection of American art & artifacts. Cooperstown is of course, "The Birthplace of Baseball." The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is located on Main Street.
  Directly on Otsego Lake is the famous Otesaga Hotel, a classic resort with its challenging Leatherstocking Golf Course. At the other end of the 9 mile lake is the Glimmerglass Opera House, a fascinating new structure, home of a summer repertory opera company with an international reputation

Cooperstown is also home of The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, a teaching hospital associated with Columbia University. Bassett Healthcare has been a leader in health maintenance organization development, and has physicians and surgeons from nearly all specialties on its full time staff.
